Interview With Vinicius Machado

Vinicius Machado
Josh Mitchell of Wicked Pissa Publicity introduced us to Vinicius Machado, a Brazilian-born actor, raised in Orlando, Florida, who "recently... played the controversial role of Nomar Arcielo on Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson's new T.V. show, 'Power,' on Starz."

Vinicius has also played roles in "Cold Case," "C.S.I.:  Miami," "N.C.I.S.:  : Naval Criminal Investigative Service," "Flash Forward," "The Shield," "General Hospital," and Get Smart, starring Steve Carell.

Vinicius has a wife and three children.  He advocates charities such as Feed the Children and World Vision.

Besides acting, Vinicius writes and produces his own material.  He is also unusually prompt.  On December 26, we asked Josh to ask him for an interview; four days later, he granted us the following:

50 Cent and Vinicius
La Libertad:  Where were you born?

Vinicius:  I was born in Niteroi, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.  In a little community called Icarai...  Two Blocks away from the beach...  Most people know it as "Nikit."

La Libertad:  Where do you currently reside?

Vinicius:  I currently reside in the beautiful city of Glendale, in California.

La Libertad:  What do you love most about your work?

Vinicius:  Everything!  What's not to like?  I get to play dress up and get paid for it!  Seriously!  As a kid, I dreamed of being a cowboy, or a superhero of some sort, et cetera.  Today, I get to inspire my kids to imagine, play, and dream as I once did.  It's purposeful.  Satisfying...  Humane...  Our imagination inspires us to look at the world differently.  To encourage one another..  It gives us hope. I know it's cliche.  But I say it with the most purest of intention.  I believe that my job as an actor is serving  the human spirit.  To captivate an audience with a glimpse of a world they never imagined, is to free them from the world they cannot escape from.

La Libertad:  What talents and hobbies do you have?

Vinicius:  Soccer was my first love.  I've played it since I was born.  I think that every child born in Brazil walks out of the hospital with a soccer ball. [Laughs out Loud.]  I love music; many people don't know this about me.  I actually grew up with music in a very peculiar way.  I played instruments and sang as a Capoeira  (Brazilian Martial Arts) performer, of which I have been practicing since I can remember. Many people think Capoeira is only about the physicality of it.  But no!  There's a musical and spiritual element to it.  It's very beautiful when you understand that the body movement is totally aligned with the music and vice versa.  Though I haven't explored music further yet, I love everything about it.  I'm also a writing fanatic.  I just love words!  Each word is like a world to me.  I love to throw myself into them and run as deep and wide as I can with them.  I have so many things written!  From screenplays to actual books on different things...  Not all industry related...  I also love animals.  I grew up with six dogs at one point, as a child.  Last but not least, I love kids.  I have three myself.  They are my best hobby and talent.

La Libertad:  What inspires you?

Vinicius:  Life itself!  Especially lately...  I have grown very aware and appreciative of the gift of "everyday."  For the past few years, I've experienced many deaths in my family.  Too many to count in the last two to three years...  Some as a complete shock...  Cruel and unimaginable how some family members passed, so young...  Thus I've been particularly more mindful that everyday I wake up is victory.  I don't take too many things so seriously anymore. Everyday we wake up is an opportunity to be ourselves and share that with the world. That's the gift.  I inspire, and I'm inspired in return.  What a treasure, life!  That's just the surface, too, because if I were to tell you everything that inspires me that comes from it, all the books in the world couldn't contain such info.  So life and everything in it is a source of inspiration to me.  My family, my fellow actors, producers...  All the different cultures, places, languages, world views, sex, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera...

La Libertad:  What is the hardest part of your job(s)?

Vinicius:  The hardest part of my job in all honesty is finding new ways of reinventing myself.  Let me explain.  Everyone is stereotyped.  I know we all like to believe that we can play every role written.  But that's not reality.  We all have a very distinct profile that fits us in one place or another.  It's precise, too.  The best thing for any aspiring actor to do, is to quickly discover where he or she fits in.  So we live in a box.  Rarely does anyone ever get to break out of that box.  The rule is that you stay where you fit for life. However, there are exceptions.  But the point is that you are always having to prove yourself.  There's no end to it.  Even when you fit the bill, there's still the question of whether or not you are going to be good at it, though you've [fit] that stereotype all your life.  There are many different reasons for this.  But for the most part, it's just the reality.  So, what do you do?  You find new ways to reinvent yourself in that stereotype, and keep yourself and your work always fresh in everyone's eyes - both the public, and fellow members of the industry.

La Libertad:  What foreign languages, if any, do you read, write, and/or speak?

Vinicius:  I speak fluently Portuguese, Spanish, and English.  That means that I can read, write, and speak all three languages.

La Libertad:  Where have you traveled?

Vinicius:  I have been to so many places in the world - too many to name.  The only places I have never ventured into is Europe, but that trip is coming.  I've pretty much been everywhere else, in variations and degrees, of course.

La Libertad:  What are your career goals?

Vinicius:  To inspire as many upcoming artists as possible, from all walks of life!  To open doors for more colored people like myself! To contribute to the cinematic body of arts in the world!

La Libertad:  What projects are you working on?

Vinicius:  I have a few coming out soon that I just recently completed.  Among them, a feature for Sony titled "Beautiful and Twisted."  Another feature for TriDestined Studios called "Wild For The Night"...  And another thriller "Misfortune"...  These three films are scheduled to come out in 2015.  I also have season two of "Power," on Starz, coming out sometime in 2015.  I'm currently prepping for two new roles, one [of] which I begin shooting in January, 2015.  I cannot mention what it is at this point.  Other than that, it's going to be my biggest opportunity/role thus far. I'll be working on that for the next several months.  And, I also have another project, which I'll commence working on in February 2015.  Sorry to be so vague!  They have N.D.A.'s (Non-Disclosure Agreements) on me.  Don't want to get in trouble, or cause any for that matter...

La Libertad:  What upcoming events, if any, do you intend to participate in?

Vinicius:  I'm working with my P.R. [Public Relations] team right now, [on] a few different things this year.  All of which is not solidified yet...  I have been invited to Ice-T, the rapper's birthday bash in New York in February, as a featured guest appearance.  And also [I] am invited to model on this year's Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week Show in New York, also in February.  And a few others...  My attendance will all depend on my schedule as it changes from week to week.  If my schedule allows, I'm looking forward, especially, to attending both of the ones mentioned.

La Libertad:  What else, if anything, would you like to tell our readers?

Vinicius:  Never give up! You want something go get it, period. Listen to me. There's nothing to fear. Success is all about you and your fears. That’s it. There's no secret to it. Believe me. I'm living proof. Take my example. Nothing is impossible. Absolutely nothing. If you only knew my stories. You are the only one capable and able to activate your potential, or to stand against it. To everyone who dares to follow my lead “The Future is an Achievement.” See you on the finish line.

Thank you Libertad Green. The love you are showing me is priceless to me. Forever indebted to you...
