Interview With Cover Model, Karmilia Cruz

We put a picture of Karmilia Cruz on our cover in November, 2013, after we met her on the set of Miss India America, where she started out as a background extra.  Now she has a real job, at Universal City.  Since then, she has also acquired a fiancĂ©, Kaileb Andrade.  We met both of them at the Olive Garden in Valencia, California last November, both of them modeling plaid attire and looking great!

WMV:  Did you not start working for Universal City after we met on the set of Miss India America?

Karmilia:  Not exactly right after, but yes.

WMV: How did you get that job?

Karmilia:  It took me a year, and I went to five auditions.  After the first audition, they didn't believe I was qualified because I didn't meet their height requirements.  [Karmilia stands less than five feet tall.]  After the second, third, and fourth auditions, they wanted to hire me, but insisted that I work on Saturdays, which I refused to do.  [Karmilia is a Seventh Day Adventist, observing "the sabbath" on Saturdays.]  Finally, after the fifth audition, they told me I had the job, but then they told me I had to work Saturdays, and again I refused, so they finally hired me anyway, and let me have Saturdays off.

WMV:  So, sometimes it pays to stand your ground?

Karmilia: Yes, and perseverance is crucial!

WMV:  Do you work as a custom character with a big head?

Karmilia:  Yes.

WMV:  Which one?

Karmilia:  Due to company policy, I cannot give out that information.

WMV:  Did your size have a lot to do with that?

Karmilia:  Yes, they needed someone very small, like me, but they actually have different roles for people with different body types.

WMV:  In case any of our readers would like to work for Universal City, what is that like?

Karmilia:  You're paid and treated well.  You work thirty minutes, take a break for thirty minutes, and get an hour for lunch.  You work at least six sets a day.

WMV: So about seven or eight hours a day? Karmilia: Yes. You adjust to it over time.

WMV:  What educational requirements are there?

Karmilia:  Most of the people I work with have little or no education.  It's sad, because I have a lot of friends with college degrees who work in shops - retail jobs that have nothing to do with their degrees.

WMV:  Do you think everyone who is not a Seventh Day Adventist like you is going to hell?

Karmilia:  Well, to go to heaven, you confess and repent of your sins and put your faith in Jesus Christ to save you. It's that simple.

WMV:  So Mormons and Methodists have a chance of going to heaven, but godless heathens like me, as well as Buddhists, Hindus, and especially Moslems are going to hell, right?

Karmilia: I believe everyone has a chance to go to heaven.  Yes, even godless heathens as you say [laughs].  Because it truly isn't a complicated process as many religions put it.  See my last answer on why I say it really isn't complicated.

WMV:  So how would any of our readers who are interested go about getting a job like yours at Universal City?

Karmilia:  Go to their website and subscribe, so when they have an upcoming audition, you will be notified through email.

WMV:  What are your thoughts on marital infidelity, such as when Arnold Schwarzenegger had an affair with his maid, who bore him a son, which he hid from Maria Shriver for ten years?

Karmilia:  I didn't hear about that, but it is very sad.  I understand marriage has it hard moments, but I believe in order to strive and get through harsh situations with your partner there must be strong communication between the two.

WMV:  You became ill recently.  Did you think you had ebola, since you were working all day everyday with people from all over the world, at Universal City?

Karmilia:  No, because I was covered with a suit.

WMV:  You mentioned traveling by train.  Do you not drive?

Karmilia:  No.

WMV:  Are you more nervous about taking public transportation since there is an outbreak of ebola?

Karmilia: [Laughs nervously.]  That reminds me of a scene from Monster's Inc., when one of the characters continually gets attacked by the C.D.A.[Child Detection Agency] for being contaminated with a child's toy.

WMV:  Kaileb says you have not yet decided what season of the year to get married next year.  Is the season in southern California not irrelevant, since it is always summer here?

Karmilia:  It has more to do with money.  We would rather spend less on our wedding and more on our honeymoon.

WMV:  What upcoming projects are you involved with, or do you intend to participate in?

Karmilia:  I plan to invest in my performing skills, like dance, language, and singing, so that I may move on onto bigger and better things in the world of Entertainment.

WMV:  What else, if anything, would you like to tell our readers?

Karmilia:  I strongly believe that if you want to do something big in life, you need to be patient with the process, as nothing happens overnight.  Also, be sure to invest time in your loved ones, because they are what's most important in your life.  Jobs will come and go; your relationships should not be damaged because of them.
