Our Cover Model: Mindy Seraphin

Mindy Seraphin is perhaps the most soft-spoken model I've ever met.  We first met in front of a house in Palmdale, California, from where I drove her, her sister (Nicole), and Libertad Green to a photo shoot at Lake Hughes.  She and her sister proved to be more pleasant than Lake Hughes, so we took them to Apollo Park, a Subway restaurant (one of her favorites), Charlie Brown's store (one of our favorites, where she and her sister shopped for Celtic jewelry), and to a Sweet Frog frozen yogurt shop (her favorite).

WMV:  Where were you born?

Mindy:  Wales, United Kingdom.

WMV:  Where do you currently reside?

Mindy:  Los Angeles County, California, U.S.A.

WMV:  Your Facebook indicates you currently work at Grindhaus Girls.  What exactly is a "Grindhaus"?

Mindy:  A Network and Platform for Models and a Magazine.

WMV:  Your Facebook indicates that you work as a talent scout for Blumenkraft Independent Films.  That makes two companies with German influences in their names.  Are you partial to Germans?

Mindy:  I don't discriminate.  I accept everyone.

WMV:  What do you look for in talent?

Mindy:  Whatever the company requires me to look for.

WMV:  Your Facebook indicates you received training from MarVal Photography.  What does MarVal mean or stand for?

Mindy:  It is the first names of a husband and wife photography team, and it stands for Marty and Valerie.

WMV:  Your Facebook indicates you worked an actress for a casting director named Sande Alessi, whom IMDb indicates is known for Fight Club, Pirates of the Caribbean:  The Curse of the Black Pearl, and The Truman Show.  IMDb also indicates she has one client, named McKade Marshall.  Do you know of any other clients she has?

Mindy:  No.

WMV:  Do you have an IMDb page?

Mindy:  No, not at this point in time, but would like to.

WMV:  [NOTE:  It took us less than an hour to get Mindy an IMDb page]:

www.imdb.com/name/nm6739864

What films or shows have you appeared in?

Mindy:  "Gilmore Girls," Kpax???  (I've done more with modeling side)

WMV:  What thoughts, if any, would you like to share with our readers about Central Casting?

Mindy:  Great company for all actors, alike beginning or advanced.

WMV:  You apparently worked and studied in New York and Boston.  What influenced you to move to southern California?

Mindy:  Sunny weather; I don't always like living in blizzards, snow, and ice; and having to shovel black ice, and be in the cold.

WMV:  Your Facebook indicates you studied at the New York Institute of Photography.  What degrees, certificates, and diplomas have you received?

Mindy:  Still attending - it's at your own leisure.  It's online.

WMV:  Facebook lists Swansea, United Kingdom as your "Hometown."  Are there a lot of swans there?

Mindy:  [laughs and smiles]  Actually, Swansea comes from the Welsh word "Abertawe," meaning "mouth of the Tawe."  Swansea became an important port town by 1550.

WMV:  On your Model Mayhem profile at

www.modelmayhem.com/1125239

you claim that you improved your appearance by losing "over two hundred pounds."  What is the most you ever weighed?

Mindy:  Three hundred seventy-five pounds.

WMV:  How much do you weigh now?

Mindy:  One hundred forty-two pounds.

WMV:  What are your diet and exercise secrets?

Mindy:  Eating a healthy diet of natural fruits and vegetables that are steamed.  Also, I bake my foods or grill them.  Cutting out red meats and sodas...  Eating chicken, turkey, or fish...  No fast food, greasy foods, fatty foods, or hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils...  No trans fats...  Limited saturated fats, all these things can clog up your arteries and cause more weight you will put on. Limit eating sugar additives, and processed foods, as well as drink plenty of water and Vitamin C. Exercise to what your body is comfortable with, Don't over do it. I do walking, and swimming, but others can do different things.  Talk with your doctor first, as everyone is different.

WMV:  Your Model Mayhem page lists "Rockabilly."  What exactly is "Rockabilly"?

Mindy:  It's a form of 'Forties and 'Fifties fashion.

WMV:  Your Model Mayhem page also lists "Fetish/Latex."  Do you have a fetish for Latex?

Mindy:  No, I am just open to all genres of modeling.

WMV:  Your Model Mayhem page lists "Dark Horror."  What examples illustrate the difference between what you consider "Dark Horror" and "Light Horror"?

Mindy:  It depends on each person's interpretation.

WMV:  Very wishy-washy!  You should run for political office.

Your Model Mayhem page lists "Underwater."  How well do you swim?

Mindy:  I was on the Varsity Swim Team in High School, got a letterman's jacket, so I swim pretty well.  I love the five-hundred-yard freestyle and the backstroke, and just relaxing in the water, too.

WMV:  In your own words, what does "mayhem" mean?

Mindy:  Chaos that leads to violence and death...

WMV:  [NOTE:  According to Dictionary.Reference.com, "mayhem" is:

1.  a legal term meaning "the crime of willfully inflicting a bodily injury on another so as to make the victim less capable of self-defense or, under modern statutes, so as to cripple or mutilate the victim."

2.  "random or deliberate violence or damage."

3.  "a state of rowdy disorder..."]

What are some of the best and worst experiences you've had as a result of your interaction at ModelMayhem.com?

Mindy:  Haven't had any bad experiences, and worked with some great photographers who were very friendly and helpful...

WMV:  Your Model Mayhem page lists "Sports."  Which sports do you play, and which sports do you watch?

Mindy:  I don't play sports, but I enjoy watching the Toronto Maple Leafs for hockey, New York Yankees for baseball, [and]
for soccer (English football), Manchester United and Sunderland.

WMV:   Why do you consider yourself Canadian?

Mindy:  I have dual citizenship through a family member.

WMV:  Your Facebook indicates that you speak French and Welsh.  What other foreign languages, if any, do you speak?

Mindy:  None.

WMV:  How different from English is Welsh?

Mindy:  Very different, just like English is different from  Chinese.

WMV:  Where have you traveled?

Mindy:  England, Canada, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Arizona, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Maryland -  lots of East Coast States, Mid-West, and West Coast states...

Mindy:  Eastern Europe and Scotland.

WMV:  Your Model Mayhem page indicates that you have no piercings or tattoos.  Not even your earlobes?

Mindy:  When I started Model Mayhem I didn't, but now I have just my ears pierced.

WMV:  Why didn't you have any piercings or tattoos before?

Mindy:  Wasn't interested until much later...

WMV:  You have apparently modeled for Pen Gwen Photography.  Are they fond of penguins?

Mindy:  Name has nothing to do with penguins...  It's the photographer's name, she chose to use for her photography.

WMV:  Did you pose for Rachel Ward, the star of Against All Odds and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid

Mindy:  It's a person with the same name - not the actress.

WMV:  One of your pictures on ModelMayhem shows a wall covered with graffiti...

Mindy:  Yes, I did a photo shoot at a deserted place in Littlerock, California, which is a popular place for photographers.

has pictures of a gray cat.  Is that your cat?

Mindy:  Yes, that is my twelve-year-old, Senior Grey Russian Tabby Cat.

Mindy:  Where I come from is near the seaside; I love the natural beauty of those locations.

WMV:  What's your favorite color?

Mindy:  Black.

WMV:  According to your Facebook profile, your favorite quotes include, "Love yourself no matter what.  All sizes and shapes are beautiful.  Let's show the world that positive self confidence comes from within and shines through the outside."  Who said that?

Mindy:  That is a quote I did myself, to support size acceptance.

WMV:  Your Facebook profile indicates that you help elderly people.  Anyone in particular?

Mindy:  Anyone I see that needs my assistance.

WMV:  How much of what kind of help are you talking about?

and any other help that they may want or need.
