Red Carpet Report: "California Roll"

Denyc & Victoria Hogan

LA Libertad's March, 2014 cover model,Denyc hosted the first screening of any of her productions, a web series entitled "California Roll," Friday evening, July 25, 2014, in Building I, also known as Jeff Gordon's Writers Boot Camp, at Bergamot Station, in Santa Monica, California.  Although one might have mistaken Denyc, at first glance, for a "just another pretty face" (her words) in her short, brightly-colored, flower print dress, which covered little more than a Catalina swimsuit would have, there is a lot more to Denyc than a lot of fabulous hair and make-up, and a perfect tan.  She exudes a genuine warmth and enthusiasm which makes her guests feel like family, and her quick wit; keen intellect; attention to detail; and ability to improvise, adapt, and overcome in a harsh, competitive environment - this all makes her a force to be reckoned with.  Co-star Victoria Hogan joked that one of the reasons she accepted her role was that Denyc' script was grammatically impeccable, having "commas in all the right places." Denyc avows that "the cast members were drawn to the show because of honestly funny and solid writing."

The red carpet event included, in addition to perhaps a half dozen photographers, one of the most impressive red carpets to be seen on such occasions.

Local Venice restaurant, Brickhouse Kitchen provided food and drinks, music, and even a silent auction promoting other local businesses.  Denyc is "really proud to live on the Westside, which is why [she] included so many local businesses in both the show and the premiere party."

Denyc admits that this, her first production, has been a learning experience.  Two years in the making, she discovered a joy for writing and production but her heart will always belong to the camera.  Even though she learned to "do it all" herself, and persevere until she accomplished her mission, her passion is still being on set as an actress, and that, she says, "will never change."  She also mentioned that acting is where she feels the most creative freedom.
Cast and Director Q&A Session

Denyc presented all thirteen webisodes of Season One.  During a question-and-answer session with her, the Director (Michael Khazen), and the cast, she indicated that Season Two is in development.
