WMV: It has been a year since our last interview with you, and two years and three months since you founded LA Libertad. What's new in LA Libertad?
Libertad: When La Libertad first started, there would be some months that it was hard to find anyone to be in our magazine. Now, we have plenty of people to interview. We are being invited to cover more events, and our readership continues to grow. In the future, we plan on doing more special issues; for example, we are currently seeking submissions for our special Halloween issue, which will be online October 3rd. Remember, we publish the first Friday of each month.
WMV: You have indicated that you intend to join the people who have literally walked across the continental United States of America. What is your itinerary?
Libertad: I am still working on the details, but, for now, I intend to leave from Santa Monica beach in California, and end in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Hopefully, the trip will take six months or less. I will be creating a documentary of my journey, and the main focus and point of the trip is to raise awareness of sexual assault and its aftermath. There are so many facts surrounding sexual assault that a lot of the public does not know about! I want to help educate and inform. Along the way, I also hope to interview survivors of sexual assault, so their unique stories can be told. I have a GoFundMe page set up to help with the expenses of the trip. I plan on covering it out of pocket, but any help would be appreciated, in getting this documentary made.
WMV: What is on your packing list?
Libertad: I am hoping to find sponsors that are interested in donating items I will be needing for my journey.
S.P.F. [Sun Protection Factor] clothing, a Camelbak, and good walking shoes are a must! Of course, there are many other things, and I will have that list available to see on my GoFundMe page.
WMV: You appeared on "LIVE! With Kelly [Ripa] and Michael [Strahan]" August 1, 2014, because you were a Weekly Winner in their Summer Sizzle Trivia Dance Contest. How fun was that?
Libertad: It was a lot of fun to see my performance on T.V. And it's all thanks to my sister, Scarlet. She is the one that told me I should enter the contest. The day I filmed my video entry, I had to do my dance several times, because of technical issues. I was hot, and upset, but it must have worked! For my performance, I belly danced with a veil, and wore a red bikini.
WMV: What prize(s) did you win?
Libertad: I won a prize package which included a mug, ball cap, T-shirt and tote.
WMV: Were you surprised at how careful Kelly Ripa was about pronouncing your first name correctly?
Libertad: Not really, because I know her husband is Mark Consuelos, who is Spanish. If anyone should be able to pronounce my name correctly, she should!
WMV: Photos of you took First Place in two different contests this summer, and were on display at the Antelope Valley Fair and the Cedar Center, in Lancaster, California. What contests were those, and who were the photographers?
Libertad: Sharna Lee took first place in the Advanced Amateur Digital Fashion category at the fair, and I was her model for that photo. Sol Suacedo-Butzke won the M.O.A.H. [Museum of Art and History]: Cedar Pin-Up Photography Contest, and her work was on display at the Cedar Center in Lancaster, California. Several of her winning photos were also of me. It was a pleasure working with both Sharna Lee, and Sol Saucedo-Butzke.
WMV: How did you celebrate Go Topless Day, August 24, 2014?
Libertad: I celebrated by posting a topless photo of myself on Facebook. Unfortunately, my back was towards the camera in that shot.
WMV: Recently, you've been working for Volsha Starr. How is that going?
Libertad: I will be in his new music video for the song "Diamond Ring," and I joined him as his backup dancer for an event in Los Angeles last month. Volsha is a great guy, and has been a pleasure to work with.
WMV: You recently came in dead last in a retro pin-up contest. How depressing was that?
Libertad: Not depressing at all! I was thrilled that, in my first attempt at the retro/pin-up look, I nailed it! Now I have found a new genre of modeling, and that is always interesting.
WMV: Where did you get the poodle skirt and the Scandal swimsuit?
Libertad: The Scandal swimsuit I wore in my first pin-up contest was a thrift store find. I bought it from an American Way Thrift Store. American Way has three locations in Los Angeles County. The poodle skirt I wore in my second contest was a gift from my mother.
WMV: You are, effectively, the Face of the Hawaiian Hula on Google. Your Hawaiian Hula video reached two million views this summer. How did you celebrate?
Libertad: I celebrated by having a Hula Burger at Islands Fine Burgers, with my family, in Burbank, California.
WMV: You are apparently a "W.O.N.O. clothing model." What does "W.O.N.O." stand for?
Libertad: We On, Never Off! W.O.N.O. is a clothing company that I had the pleasure of modeling for earlier this year.
WMV: How much fun was the cherry blossom photo shoot last spring?
Libertad: I worked with some amazing photographers, and we took some fabulous photos at that event. I was finally able to wear my collection of kimonos for a Japanese-inspired shoot among the blossoms!
WMV: As a trained fencer, how much do you know about kimonos and Samurai swords?
Libertad: Not a lot, since the style I know is Olympic-style fencing, but I do have an interest in all kinds of weapons and cultures.
WMV: Do you like "Flashing Blinky Lights"?
Libertad: Yes! It was a pleasure working with their company this past year. It was a fun shoot, and I got to play with some fun products. I shared the product videos on my blog and Facebook pages for my friends to see.
WMV: How do you intend to celebrate New Year's Eve this winter?
Libertad: I am not sure yet. For many years now, I have brought in the new year dancing at some party or event, as "the entertainment." We'll see...
WMV: Kato Kaelin had you on his talk show last winter. What's he like?
Libertad: He was a very nice guy, and a pleasure to work with. I was a guest and belly dancer for his live T.V. show, and the whole experience was a lot of fun!
WMV: Do you like going to flea markets?
Libertad: I enjoy thrift stores more than flea markets, but they can be a lot of fun, too. As a child, my family and I went a lot for a period of time, as sellers. I remember not really liking the experience at that time.
WMV: You celebrated your last birthday by taking your family to see the sequoias. How do you intend to celebrate your birthday this year?
Libertad: I know it's getting close (my birthday is September 20th), but I have still not decided. I am leaning towards a trip to Death Valley to get some fantastic photos belly dancing in the desert.
