LA Libertad: What is your occupation?
Jesse: I'm a full-time singer/song writer.
LA Libertad: In which city and State do you live?
Jesse: Recently moved into L.A. ...
LA Libertad: What do you love most about your work?
Jesse: Music gives us all something to relate to, and to those of us who write, it's a freedom of expression. It allows me to tell a story about my life in a way someone can really feel what I went through at that time.
LA Libertad: Do you have any other talents or hobbies?
Jesse: Throughout my years, traveling, I've come up with a bunch of different hobbies, but I'd say life-long accomplishments outside of entertainment have all been athletically accomplished. I played very competitive baseball growing up, as well as competing at high levels as a boxer.
LA Libertad: What inspires you?
Jesse: I think if I'm being honest with myself, my biggest driver is fear. Fear of not accomplishing goals I've spent my life to achieve. Fear of looking back on my life and saying, "I ALMOST made it." And, in my eyes, that's not an option.
LA Libertad: What is the hardest part of your job?
Jesse: The hardest part of being a serious musician is the consistent travel. You're never anywhere long, and it poses as a lonely life if you look at it the wrong way. But in positive perspective, I also just play music for a living.
LA Libertad: Do you speak any other languages?
Jesse: I actually don't speak Spanish, although my name would suggest that I might. I didn't grow up with enough contact with my Hispanic side of the family, and I never got to pick up on the native tongue. Although I am in the midst of working through Rosetta Stone, and hope to say I'm bilingual soon!
LA Libertad: Where have you traveled?
Jesse: Well, internationally I've been to Mexico on a family vacation, Canada on a random trip from Vegas - LOL - and China to play an international baseball tournament.
Within the states, I think it would take less time to list the places I haven't been. I spent six years of my life, right out of high school, playing in every city possible, coast to coast. Starting in the bay area and getting as far as Hartford, Connecticut... Playing streets, bars, restaurants, clubs, festivals - you name it. A lot of which I did homeless, chasing a dream.
LA Libertad: What are your goals for your career?
Jesse: Play for as many people as possible... Give people a reason to believe in themselves and hard work. I want to be a positive role model for anyone and everyone, especially kids.
LA Libertad: Any upcoming projects?
Jesse: I'm literally in the middle of recording my first single, and looking forward to making the rest of the album. I do have demo reels and everything else available on my website.
LA Libertad: Do you have any links you would like to share?
Jesse: Website just launched! Still in the works, but everything you need to know about Jesse Lopez can be found there, including shows, updates, and weekly blogs:
