Interview with Tim E. D

Tim E. D is a television host based in Atlanta, Georgia.

La Libertad:  How long have you been hosting?

Tim E. D:  I have been hosting for over 15 years. I started in 1994 and it's been an incredible ride ever since.  I'm thankful for voice and diction classes because the first few years were a little rough with my accent.

La Libertad:  How did you get started?

Tim E. D: School plays were always something I enjoyed in high school.  I knew that I wanted to segue it into television because I was obsessed with TV.  I would call the local TV station and talk to them about programming.  This was when I was in middle school. I just looked in the phone book and found the number and then called and talked to the secretary.  She didn't know any of the answers to the questions so she would patch me through to master control.  I would ask how the ratings were doing for Night Court and other shows in syndication.  I wanted to make sure my favorite shows were going to be ok.  Years later I would wind up working for that same station in the same department.  Eventually my mom saw a notice in the paper about TV production classes at a local station. I took the classes and then wanted to host my own show. I wrote a proposal of the show and submitted it. The station liked it and the rest was history.

La Libertad:  What are shows you have hosted?

Tim E. D:  I have been blessed with all the opportunities that have been given to me.  I have hosted a call in relationship show, a soap opera, several pro wrestling shows, award shows for local affiliates, a teen issues show, a magazine style show and a game show.

La Libertad:  What do you like most about your work?

Tim E. D:  The one great thing about TV is the ability to reach a lot of people at one time. I don't have to drive to each person's house and put on a show. I tell them what time I'll be on and what channel and they can tune in with this little magic box in the living room.  I also love when you work on something for so long and you finally have that moment that you get to deliver it and it seems new again because an audience hasn't heard it yet.  That validation back from the audience makes all the difference.

La Libertad:  What is the hardest part of your job?

Tim E. D:  Having to battle sometimes what may be a great opportunity for exposure vs the creative control that you have to give up. I battle that a lot.  I'm not someone that has to be in control always of a situation but I know me better than anyone and I know what I'm trying to accomplish.  It's hard sometimes when I have had people try to take me in a different direction than what I wanted to go.  I first started one project and they wanted me to change my name. I told them that was a deal breaker.  I mentioned you don't change a name like m and m's, snoop dog etc.  I may not be as huge as them but I'm still a brand that has money and time invested in it.

La Libertad:  What are your current projects?

Tim E. D:  I had always dreamed of becoming a pro wrestling play by play announcer.  I was ready to go to college in Florida to study broadcasting and had hoped to make my way to WCW wrestling to do play by play for them one day.  Well, WCW went out of business and I didn't  make it to Florida.  However, I did get a degree in broadcasting and I recently had the opportunity to reach a dream of mine calling play by play action at NWA Anarchy Pro Wrestling(nwaanarchy.net).  We are seen in over 50 TV markets around the country, so it's a great opportunity.

La Libertad:  What are your goals for the future?

Tim E. D:  I want to find that sweet spot of performing. I feel like I have been there before and want to get back to it again. It's where I can't stop laughing and everyone around you encourages you to grow as a performer.  It seems there is so much negativity out there in the world and in a performance based situation.  It's hard to grow creatively if you are shut down negatively. Thanks Libertad for the opportunity to talk, and continued success with La Libertad Magazine.
